Miami and Italy, a relationship consolidated by mutual benevolence translated into real demonstrations. Indeed, we’re speaking of the confirmation that comes from the newborn soccer sports association, namely Miami Magic FC, which has entrusted its technical guidance to a young Roman coach: Marco Canolintas.
The young athletic trainer has a very important Curriculum Vitae on his side, which shows and highlights both his qualities and his stubbornness in wanting to combine the passion for sports training and teamwork with the aim of obtaining concrete results in sports science. For Canolintas it’s essential to entertain children, but at the same time it becomes essential to improve them. In this regard, the coach himself said: “I believe that in a youth sector the development of strength is essential to make the talented young player an athlete. This means greater resilience against injuries and an increase in performance in acceleration, braking and sprinting actions, often decisive on the final result”. It seems necessary to highlight the fact that, as is well known, the physical demands in a first team where you play every three days are very high and without adequate levels of strength the player cannot maintain an excellent performance during the season. For this reason it’s important to learn in the development phase the correct technique of the exercises in order to arrive in a first team ready to train correctly and with good levels of strength, since, as noted by Canolintas: "At that level often he has the right time to teach the players how to lift weights correctly, often leading to injuries”.
The young athletic trainer, Marco Canolintas, also reveals what his working method would be which, contrary to what one might imagine, isn’t based on improving strength parameters just to justify his own role within a club (as is too often seen around), but strength training would be carried out with a view to improving performance on the field. The same then highlighted the "modus operandi" to be respected so that the above can be accomplished; indeed, it’s necessary to know the biomechanics of the specific motor gestures of football and of the individual athlete, and then (from this point on) find exercises that have a better correlation with performance progress. A clear vision that of Canolintas, gained above all thanks to the Master in Sports Biomechanics which, as he himself admits, has certainly played a decisive role.
Specifically, in the Under 14-16 categories, the young trainer considers it essential to spend time in the gym perfecting the executive technique and increasing skills of strength and power (especially jumps and leaps). While in more advanced categories (U17 up to the First Team) he also focuses a lot on more specific work such as sprint against resistance, eccentric overload and explosive action (eg medicine ball). Finally, he concludes by admitting that the feedback regarding the work done with the trainer mustn’t be based only on an increase in the load in the gym, but it’s necessary to analyze the data relating to the improvement of performance (sprint, acceleration, deceleration, jump, etc.).
