You can almost hear the scents of the flowers depicted on the paintings of John William Waterhouse, a pre-Raphaelite artist of excellence in Victorian London or of being protagonists, having tea, of one of Virginia Woolf’s novels or being invited to one of the meetings of her Bloomsbury club, composed of a group of London artists and intellectuals that included, among others, the art critic Clive Bell, the biographer Lytton Strachey, the writer and future husband of Virginia Leonard Woolf, but also the artist and art critic Roger Fry, novelists Edward Morgan and David Garnett and economist John Maynard Keynes.

A London of other times, maybe not so far, well represented by the DAKS fashion show that during the Milan Fashion Week FW 2019/20 presents a strongly British collection to celebrate the 125th anniversary of its foundation.

If the characteristic English countryside with its misty afternoons, the classic quarters of Chelsea and Fulham, the immense gardens of the London capital are a source of inspiration, the collection expresses, in pure DAKS style, clothes with clean lines and soft, elegant, always refined and class.

The designs of the fabrics, cleverly chosen by Filippo Scuffi (artistic director of the maison since 2008), come directly from the archives of suppliers of English fabrics emphasizing the soul and the English character DAKS. The same designer, in more than an interview, said he was inspired by the seventies and the figure of his mother, beautiful and elegant lady of eighty, always present at the shows of his son, competitor and finalist of the Miss Italy contest some decades ago.

The must of the collection will remain, even for this season, the Anniversary Check: a special design specifically designed to celebrate this important event, the same developed both in the garments and knitwear. The latter is made of noble fibers such as merinos, cashmere and a special monhair with a special raising treatment to create a softer, warmer and more enveloping effect. The sweaters proposed also recall, in the design, the timeless "argyle", the iconic graphic line of the English knitwear.

The DAKS man, as well as the woman, wants, in the pure style of the label, to be refined and distinguished, to dress clothes that do not distort the lines of his body but that celebrate the silhouette in its most classic and natural form.
Quoting Virginia Woolf: "it is the clothes that bring us, and not us to wear clothes; we can make an arm or breast model well, but they shape us to please the heart, the brain, the tongue ".
